I am an economist and data scientist.
I have worked, taught, or been affiliated with Purdue University, the Stanford University Law School, the University of California Berkeley, and the University of Colorado.
Most recently, I was an Associate Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
My research has been published in The Review of Economics and Statistics, The RAND Journal of Economics, The Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, and The Strategic Management Journal, The Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, the US National Bureau of Economic Research, and the IEEE.
My teaching spans business strategy, entrepreneurship, financial economics, computational methods, data science, intellectual property, and computational law.
My consulting has included major projects in industry, extensive Executive Education, and the foundation of the Data Science for Managers program.
I'm also an entrepreneur.
I've raised funding and co-founded five companies.
Along the way, I have also led teams and served as Chief Technology Officer, Chief Science Officer, Director of Development, and CEO.
When I am not working, I'm usually in the mountains.
Currently, I am on an extended sabbatical to spend more time climbing and skiing.
I'm also volunteering on public service projects involving the development and regulation of Artificial Intelligence.
